Group therapy is a form of counseling in which a small number of people (3 - 8 people) come together under the guidance of a professionally trained therapist to help themselves and one another. The therapy has been widely used and has been a standard and effective treatment option for over 50 years. In group, not only do clients receive tremendous understanding, support, and encouragement from others facing similar issues, but they also gain different perspectives, ideas, and viewpoints on those issues. Group therapy, like individual therapy is a powerful vehicle for growth and change, and is intended to help people who would like to gain support, increase self-awareness, and learn new ways to cope with personal or interpersonal challenges.
I am currently offering two groups: a general interpersonal group and a panic attack therapy group. If you would like more information about these groups please contact me at (323) 362-6555 or send me an email at jeff@jeffreybornstein.com.
General Interpersonal Group
This group will focus on interpersonal relationships, helping people get along better, and offering support for specific problems and challenges. The issues discussed each week will arise from the members rather than being initiated by the group leader. Personal concerns or problems from everyday life, relationships with friends, family members, and significant others, and specific reactions, thoughts, or feelings to people and events within the group are frequently discussed. Interaction between members is an important part of group because it enables members to try new ways of relating as well as learning about the way they interact with one another.
Time: To be determined
Who: Men and women above the age of 22
Cost: $40 / session
Panic Attack Therapy Group
Panic attacks are frightening episodes in which you may feel intense fear, shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness, rapid pulse, and chest pain. The trigger for these attacks may not be known. Some people who experience panic attacks may experience dysfunction in their work and personal lives and may limit their activities outside of the home or workplace for fear of a possible attack. This group will provide you with a safe place to discuss your concerns with others who understand and who do not think that you are "crazy" or that "it is all in your head". Group members will also share their personal ways for dealing with and managing life with panic attacks.
Time: To be determined
Who: Men and women above the age of 22 who experience panic attacks
Cost: $40 / session
